I transferred to UC Irvine to pursue my passion for English and writing. The English program at UCI was more generalized and flexible than other schools I was considering. During my time there, I took classes that emphasized writing and critical thinking as opposed to primarily focusing on literary analysis. Many of these writing oriented classes covered abstract topics like dream analysis in literature, forgetfullness in narrative, and writing as an outlet for illness. I also participated in a Creative Writing minor where I focused on the narrative elements of storytelling. My English major taught me the more calculated, methodical version of rhetoric while my Creative Writing minor showed me the many creative ways to express that argument or idea.
